About us
SITM, or School in the Mountain, is an initiative of the Humanav Foundation, a non-profit registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. It is a virtually operated cloud school with a vision to educate students in the F2F (functional to finishing) span. SITM operates across India and provides enrollment through mobile/digital devices for students and teachers. The founding team of SITM combines more than 35 years of experience across the social and technology sectors in India, Southeast Asia, the EU, and the USA.
Our mission
Our primary mission is to take education and skill development to the bottom-of-pyramid students through an inclusive technology-enabled education approach for all, particularly in rural and remote areas. We take and fit the learning system to the student rather than making the student come and forcibly fit within a fixed learning system. Crossing the technology barrier gives our communities access to the digital economy, fundamentally transforming how they uplift other pillars of their lives, such as finance, education, and health.
Our vision
On average, each year, almost 50% of the population aged 20 years are dropped out of our national education system due to several reasons. Throughout their lives, these people share all common resources (air, water, energy, basic utility, and facilities) with others in almost equal proportions except in the areas controlled by individual financial worth. To build a strong nation we need to strengthen the fundamental life cycle skills and impart finishing school skills so that these people attain a better socio-economic condition. This is what our school is focusing on.
